Penn. Mom Accused of Hacking School Computer; Catherine Venusto Upped Grades of Daughter, Son

The ABC News website reports today (July 19, 2012) that a Pennsylvania mother faces six felony charges for hacking into her children's school computer to change their grades.

Catherine Venusto, 45, of New Tripoli worked for the Northwestern Lehigh School District from 2008 through April 2011 and has two children in the district.

She has been accused of changing her daughter's failing grade from an F to an M (for "medical") in June 2010, and changing her son's 98 to 99 in February 2012, nearly a year after she quit her job as a secretary.

Venusto was arraigned yesterday (July 18) afternoon in Lehigh County Magisterial Court on three counts of unlawful use of a computer and three counts of computer trespassing and altering data. All six charges are third degree felonies.

  1. It's truly ridiculous that a mother changed her son's grade from a 98 to a 99...Also, of course, her hacking into the computer to change the grades of her daughter and son is completely reprehensible.
