The Life in Italy website reports today (July 12, 2012) that Italian marriages last an average of 15 years -- as the divorce rate slowly climbs -- according to the country's statistical agency.
In 2010 -- the latest year available for figures -- 88,191 married couples separated, an increase of 2.6 percent over the previous year, Istat, the Italian National Institute of Statistics, said in a report released today.
A total of 54,160 divorces were reported in 2010, an icrease of 0.5 percent.
Ages in divorce and separation are gradually rising, Istat noted, because in recent years, couples have have tended to marry later in life.
