France Arrests Man for Aiding Terrorist Groups; Tunisian Native Suspected of Financing Groups

The Voice of America (VOA) website reports today (July 3, 2012) that French authorities have arrested the administrator of an extremist website who is suspected of playing a role in recruiting and financing for al-Qaida and other terrorist groups.

The French prosecutor's office said the Tunisian national -- who lives in the French city of Toulon -- was being questioned today.

The prosecutor said there is evidence the suspect may have played a role in collecting funds for weapons purchases by various groups, including Fatah al-Islam and the Islamic State of Iraq.

The prosecutor added that he is also suspected of financing and recruiting for such groups.
