The White House -- as a result of intelligence info -- today (June 27, 2017) accused the Syrian government of preparing a chemical weapons attack against rebels in that country's civil war, and warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that it will "pay a heavy price" if such an attack is carried out, according to the UPI website.
A White House statement says: "As we have previously stated, the United States is in Syria to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria."
The statement continues: "If, however, Mr. Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price."
The Syrian government launched a chemical weapons attack on April 4 that killed more than 80 civilians, including many children. Trump responded to that attack by firing 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian air force base.
