Turkey's Europe minister -- during a visit to the Hague yesterday -- admitted there is no chance of completing a deal on visa-free travel of Turkish citizens to the EU (European Union) by the July 1 deadline, the AFP (Agence France-Presse) website reports today (June 11, 2016).
The EU had agreed in March to give Turkey visa-free access by July 1 in return for Ankara controlling the flood of migrants to Greece and other conditions.
But Turkey has yet to fulfill all of the conditions laid down by the EU for the visa agreement.
Turkey's European Affairs Minister Omer Celik admitted the July 1 deadline would be missed in an interview last night with Dutch broadcast NOS. "But we think it must happen as soon as possible," the Turkish minister said.
