Police in Uruguay have arrested two male nurses -- who are suspected of killing at least 16 elderly patients -- in two hospitals in the South American nation's capital, Montevideo, the Eurasia Review website reports today (March 20, 2012).
According to an investigation, the two nurses -- aged 38 and 49 -- knew one another but acted independently. They claimed that they killed their victims "out of pity to end their suffering."
Authorities have also charged a female nurse as being an accomplice in at least one of the murders.
The suspects -- dubbed "Angels of Death" by the local media -- killed their victims by giving them lethal injections of air or morphine.
