At a synod concerned primarily about peace and the continued presence of Christians in the Holy Land, one of the suggestions made repeatedly was that Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants celebrate Easter together each year, according to the Catholic News website.
"We truly hope for the unification of the Easter holiday with the Orthodox churches," Latin-rite Auxiliary Bishop William H. Shomali of Jerusalem told the Synod of Bishops for the Middle East on October 14, 2010.
Celebrating Easter on the same day also would mean observing Lent together.
Most Protestants and Catholics celebrate Easter on one day -- based on the calendar of Pope Gregory XIII -- while most Orthodox observe the feast day according to the Julian calendar. The dates of Easter coincide every four years.
