The Life in Italy website reports today that Pope Benedict XVI appealed yesterday (October 15, 2010) to the world's rich nations to contribute more aid to help the 925 million people estimated to suffer chronic hunger.
"Everyone -- from individuals to the organizations of civil society, States and international institutions -- needs to make a priority of one of the most urgent goals for the human family: freedom from hunger," the Pope said in a message to mark World Food Day at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Rome headquarters.
Pope Benedict also praised FAO's "One Billion Hungry" project, saying it "has highlighted the need for an adequate response both from individual countries and from the international community."
