The Telegraph (British) website reports today (October 14, 2010) that Pope Benedict XVI told President Nicolas Sarkozy of France that his wife, Carla (Bruni) Sarkozy, was not welcome on his recent visit to the Vatican, because the Italian media might publish racy photos of the French first lady.
Vatican officials sent the French ambassador a message concerning the Italian-born supermodel's presence during her husband's 30-minute audience with the Pontiff earlier this month which stated: "Carla Sarkozy is not welcome in the Vatican."
The French press indicated that the Pope was concerned that her visit would spark a rash of nude and scantily-clad photos from her modeling career being published in Italian newspapers.
Several photos of France's first lady -- wearing little or no clothing -- date back to her catwalk model days and have appeared in the French and international press.
