Most Bribes in Serbia Given to Traffic Policemen; Corruption Worse in Bosnia/Herzegovina, Albania

A recent poll organized by the Blic website indicates that citizens of Serbia most often give bribes to traffic policemen.

A total of 5,686 citizens took part in the poll, and more than half of them (2,940) replied that they had given a bribe to a traffic police officer.

Doctors came in second place for the number of bribes they received, as 30.7 percent of Serbian citizens mentioned them. Doctors are followed by priests, clerks, and professors respectively.

The poll concludes that lawyers are the least corrupt of all professions in Serbia.

Recent research conducted by "Transparency International," indicates that corruption in Serbia is most common in the areas of public purchases, the judicial system, education, healthcare, taxes and finances.

This research also indicates that only Bosnia/Herzegovina and Albania are with a higher corruption index than Serbia, insofar as countries in the region are concerned.
