DC Archdiocese to Open New Seminary in 2011; Swayed by Young Men's Interest in Evangelization

A new seminary will open in Washington, DC in August 2011 for men preparing to become priests, the Archdiocese of Washington website reports today (October 21, 2010).

The seminary -- for men in college and pre-theology studies -- will be located near The Catholic University of America on Taylor Street.

"At a time when the teachings of the Catholic faith seem counter-cultural, we are seeing an increased interest in the priesthood, particularly among younger men who want to be a part of a new evangelization in society," said Archbishop Donald Wuerl.

The Archdiocese of Washington has 67 seminarians, up from 44 ten years ago.
