Germany's Council of Jews Blasts Frankfurt; City Plans to Honor Anti-Semitic Author Grosser

Germany's main Jewish body attacked the city of Frankfurt today (October 29, 2010) for inviting a French author, Alfred Grosser, to speak next month at ceremonies remembering the 1938 start of organized Nazi violence against Jews.

Grosser, 85, is Jewish and deplores the actions of Israel against the Palestinians, according to the Earth Times website.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany demanded that Frankfurt reverse an invitation to Grosser to be guest of honor at a ceremony on November 9 marking the initial orgy of violence by Nazis against Jewish shops, homes, and synagogues in 1938.

Stephan Kramer -- general secretary of the council -- wrote a letter to the mayor of Frankfurt, Petra Roth, demanding Grosser's invitation be canceled because he was "unfit to be guest speaker."
