Calif. School District Disciplines a Principal; Says His Prayer Breakfast Violated Constitution

A California elementary school principal -- given disciplinary action for holding a teachers' prayer breakfast -- is suing his school district, claiming he did "absolutely nothing wrong," the Christian Post website reports today (October 17, 2010).

Craig Richter, principal of Foot Hill School and a Christian, appeared in a short video promoting the Santa Barbara Community Prayer Breakfast, which was organized to honor educators.

A member of the school district, Goleta Union, viewed the video, and the district later deemed that Richter had violated the separation of church and state, threatened to end his contract, and placed him on a disciplinary performance plan.

Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Joseph Infranco said that the district's contention that Richter had violated the Constitution is unfounded and absurd.
