Cambridge, MA School Board Takes Bold Action; Votes to Cancel School on Two Muslim Holidays

The Christian Broadcast Network website reports today (October 11, 2010) that the Cambridge, Massachusetts school committee has voted in favor of officially recognizing two Muslim holidays, beginning next year.

The first holiday to be recognized marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The other is known as Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Cambridge school committee member Marc McGovern, who advocated the new policy, said it's important to avoid stereotyping Muslims as terrorists.

The school board's decision comes after students from various religions made the request.
