After widespread condemnation, the New York Times apologized for publishing an "anti-Semitic political cartoon," the JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) website reports today (April 29, 2019).
The cartoon, which appeared on April 25 in the newspaper, depicted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a dachshund-breed guide dog wearing a Star of David collar and leading a yarmulke-clad President Donald Trump.
After a wave of outrage, the Times issued a statement on April 27 acknowledging the image was "offensive," but stopped short of apologizing.
In its second statement, issued yesterday, the Times said it was "deeply sorry" for publishing the cartoon.
