The U. S. House of Representatives yesterday endorsed statehood for the District of Columbia for the first time in American history, with the passage of the Democrats' sweeping voting rights bill, the Daily Caller website reports today (March 9, 2019).
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer became the latest high profile Democrat after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to express support for DC statehood.
Opponents argue that Democrats support the measure only because it would ensure them two additional Democratic senators.
