The IS (Islamic State) terror group was surrounded today (March 2, 2019) by U.S.-backed troops battling IS's last Syrian enclave in Baghouz, a village located in eastern Syria, where a large majority of IS fighters and followers reside, according to the Express (British) website.
Authorities said the fight will be "over soon," ending a four-year battle against the jihadist group in Syria.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump told American troops at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska on February 28 that U.S.-backed forces in Syria have already captured all IS territories in Syria.
An SDF official said the fighting is ongoing and that the troops were "surprised by the statement" from Mr. Trump.
