A gunman in New Zealand attacked worshipers in two mosques today (March 15, 2019), killing 49 people and injuring 42 others in what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called a "terrorist attack," according to the Euro News website.
A 28-year-old Australian suspect, identified as Brenton Harrison Tarrant, appeared in Christchurch district court today. He streamed footage of the attack on Facebook and denounced immigrants, calling them "invaders."
Tarrant has been charged with murder and was remanded without plea. He will return to court on April 5 and will face additional charges.
Two other suspects in the mosque attacks are currently in custody.
