The Ukrainian parliament has ousted its president Viktor Yanukovych, the Big News Network website reports today (February 23, 2014).
The expulsion yesterday came after months of violent protests in many parts of the country.
Yanukovych -- a staunch ally of Russia -- had turned Ukraine away from a deal with the European Union (EU), which would have seen it take full membership.
His deal with Russia -- which, in effect, shattered Ukraine's expected agreement with the EU -- angered a plethora of Ukrainians who turned Kiev, Ukraine's capital, into a war zone last week with several people killed.
