A gunman has killed two people and injured six others after opening fire in a Russian Orthodox cathedral today (February 9, 2014), according to the Independent (British) website.
A nun and a parishioner were fatally wounded in the attack in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on the island of Sakhalin, off Russia's eastern coast.
The gunman -- who had worked as a security guard in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk -- was detained at the scene, the federal Investigative Committee said.
There was no immediate word on a motive for the attack, which came just six days after a Moscow teenager killed a teacher and a policeman and held 20 classmates hostage, in what was Russia's first major school shooting.
