A controversial hate group -- known for its protests of funerals and gay rights events -- has secured a permit to demonstrate at the 2013 inauguration of President Barack Obama, the Christian Post website reports today (January 16, 2013).
Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) -- an organization headed by Fred Phelps that is unaffiliated with any Baptist denomination -- plans to protest from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21.
"The beast will show you his true colors; then Christ will return and consume him with the spirit of his mouth," reads the WBC group's statement posted on Twitter, referring to the re-elected president as "Beast Obama."
A petition against the WBC -- which has received more than 320,000 signatures and seeks action by the federal government to limit the group's hateful protests -- states, in part: "These 'church' members have become homeland terrorists, without bombs, but with words, terrorizing the good people of this country in a form of harassment, and this must be stopped."
