The U.S. Supreme Court today (January 7, 2013) refused to hear a case that hoped to overturn a Georgia law that bans people from carrying guns in churches, according to the Raw Story website.
The appeal was filed by a non-profit group and a Baptist preacher, both of whom previously lost before the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
They targeted a law -- passed in Georgia in 2010 -- that bans firearms in places of worship, saying it represents a secular intrusion into religious behavior and thereby is a violation of the First Amendment.
The Supreme Court refused to hear the case, meaning that the lower court's decision to uphold the Georgia law remains valid.
