US Cuts Over $285M on UN's 2018-19 Budget; Claims UN Is Unappreciative of US Generosity

The U.S. Mission to the United Nations has decided to slash the UN's 2018-2019 budget by over $285 million, just days after the UN voted against the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the Times of Israel website reports today (December 26, 2017).

U.S. ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, said that the "inefficiency and overspending" of the organization is well-known, and she would not let "the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of."

Last week, the UN General Assembly voted 128-9 to reject President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, in effect "biting the hand that feeds the UN."

Haley said, "When we make generous contributions to the UN, we also have legitimate expectation that our good will is recognized and respected."
