Bulgaria on Path to Passing a Radical Islam Law; Criminalizes Advocating Jihad,a Caliphate,Sharia

An innovative law proposed by Bulgaria may provide a model for the U.S. and other Western democracies to weed out radical Islam and its promoters, the Clarion Project website reports today (December 10, 2017).

The law, which amends the criminal code and passed the first reading in parliament, criminalizes the promotion of radical Islam, including advocating for violent jihad, a caliphate, and sharia law.

The law also makes promoting any ideology of violence or promoting the replacement of the nation's laws or constitution criminal.

"The law is not meant as an attack on the religion of Islam, but rather addresses the extremist Islamist ideology," Bulgarian MP Boris Yachev said.
