Presbyterian Church Addresses Spanking Children; Votes to End Spanking in Home, School, Day Care

The Christian Broadcast Network website reports today (July 6, 2012) that America's largest Presbyterian denomination says it is wrong to spank children.

Delegates to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) passed a resolution calling for "an end to the practice of corporal punishment in homes, schools, and child care facilities."

Fifty-one percent of the church leaders meeting in Pittsburgh voted for the measure, while 47 percent opposed it.

Several speakers had argued that the measure improperly intruded on parental prerogatives.
