NOW Upset Paycheck Fairness Act Is Shot Down; Senate Inaction Denies Women Equal Pay as Men

The NOW (National Organization for Women) website today (June 5, 2012) expressed its deep disappointment that the U.S. Senate this afternoon prevented the Paycheck Fairness Act from being brought up for a debate and receiving a vote.

Terry O'Neill -- the current president of NOW -- said that by blocking this common-sense law, right-wing legislators have expanded "the war on women."

She also said that it is unacceptable that women are still paid -- on the average -- 77 cents for every dollar paid to men.

O'Neill emphasized that the politicians who voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act -- including the Senate's five Republican women senators -- will pay a price at the polls, as NOW activists around the country are already organizing to see that they are defeated in their bid for re-election.
