Denmark Allows Gay Church Wedding Ceremonies; Calls Them Equality of Couples of Diff. Genders

The Christian Today website reports today (June 10, 2012) that Denmark -- the first country to allow gay couples to enter into civil unions in 1989 -- will now be allowing homosexuals to have full wedding ceremonies at church.

The bill in Denmark -- after being presented by the center-left government earlier this year -- passed on June 7 with an 85-24 vote.

The law goes into effect on June 15.

Manu Sareen -- Danish Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs -- said, "This is equality between couples of different genders... a major step forward."
