New Poll: Democrats More Likely to Doubt Bible; Republicans, Conservatives Tend to Believe Bible

The Cybercast News Service website reports today (July 9, 2011) that results of a new Gallup poll -- just released yesterday -- show that liberals and Democrats are more likely than conservatives, moderates, Republicans, and independents to believe the Bible is nothing more than a book of fables and legends made up by man.

Since George Washington was inaugurated in 1789, American presidents have traditionally placed their left hand on the Bible when they take the oath of office and swear to defend the Constitution of the United States.

A combined 93 percent of Republicans said the Bible was either the literal word of God or the inspired word of God.

A combined 73 percent of Democrats -- as well as a combined 73 percent of independents -- said the Bible was either the literal word of God or the inspired word of God.
