In his annual Christmas address yesterday to the Vatican hierarchs, Pope Francis warned that those engaged in "malicious resistance" to the reform of the Roman Curia are inspired by the devil, the Religion News website reports today (December 23, 2016).
Francis urged the prelates who work with him to undergo "permanent conversion and purification" to modernize the church and serve it better.
The 80-year-old pontiff warned his audience that the administrative reforms he has begun would be far-reaching and required profound change among those who run the Vatican Curia.
A few months ago, Pope Francis' authority to reform the church was questioned by four traditional cardinals -- headed by U.S. Cardinal Raymond Burke -- who asserted that Catholic doctrine forbids a pope from allowing remarried divorced Catholics to receive communion.
