Islamic State (IS) militants have dealt a final blow to Iraq's displaced Christian population by burning thousands of homes before surrendering the occupied territories, the Christian Today website reports today (December 16, 2016).
As more than two years of its occupation comes to an end, IS forces have systematically set fire to homes in the Nineveh Plain before leaving.
Many Iraqi Christians had long hoped for an eventual return home, but even with IS forces gone, the destruction has dealt a blow to their dreams.
"This is it. Everything is gone," said one man who had lived in a home destroyed in Bartella, a recently liberated Iraqi Christian town. He added, "Why should we stay in this country any longer?"
