The new president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) public policy organization has said that the Bible belt is collapsing, the Christian Broadcast Network website reports today (September 16, 2013).
Rev. Russell Moore recently said Bible-believing Christians will increasingly be forced to choose whether they will follow God or the nation's leaders.
"We are not Americans first. We belong to another kingdom, and we will stand and speak for that kingdom," he said. The Southern Baptist Convention -- which has more than 16 million members -- is the largest Protestant denomination in the United States.
But Moore -- head of the SBC's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission -- said the loss of the so-called "culture war" in America could be good for the church. He said, "We are no longer the 'moral majority.' We are a 'prophetic minority.'"
