Pope Francis today (July 16, 2021) banned the celebration of the old Latin Mass favored by many conservatives, saying priests can only perform it with the approval of local bishops and the Vatican, according to the UPI website.
Instead of Latin, the modern Mass is to be performed in the language of local parishes around the world.
Pope Francis said the old Latin Mass betrayed the tradition and the "true Church."
