Drug Overdose Deaths Go up 30% in US in 2020; Record Estimate of 93,331 Drug Deaths Reported

Drug overdose deaths rose by nearly 30% in the U.S. in 2020, according to a report released today (July 14, 2021) by the National Center for Health Statistics, the UPI website reports.  

An estimated 93,331 drug overdose deaths were reported nationally last year -- a record -- up from 72,151 deaths estimated in 2019.

Overdose deaths associated with "psycho-stimulants" such as metamphetamine increased by 47% in 2020 from 2019.
