Conservatives reacted with outrage at Pope Francis' unexpected crackdown on traditional Latin Mass, saying it could drive many Catholics out of the church, the Newsmax website reports today (July 17, 2021).
"This is a grave disappointment," said Joseph Shaw, chairman of the Latin Mass Society, in response to the pope's new policy against the Latin Mass.
Such Masses will no longer take place in the Catholic Church unless the local bishop first consults the Vatican for approval.
