Tunisia is a predominantly Islamic nation that is now taking action to achieve full gender equality, the Clarion Project website reports today (August 16, 2017).
Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi -- in a recent speech on National Women's Day -- announced the formation of a new committee to study how to achieve gender equality.
In particular, he is seeking to end the Islamic inheritance system that sees a woman inherit half of what a man receives.
He also has called for the government to allow Muslim women to marry non-Muslim men.
