Judge:Idaho Inmates Can Have Kosher Meals; Jewish Inmates Ate Just Fruit during Passover

A federal judge in Idaho has ruled that the state's Department of Correction must provide kosher meals for prisoners in all Idaho prisons, the Jerusalem Post website reports today (August 25, 2017).

The ruling is a result of a religious freedom lawsuit filed in May by the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) on behalf of four Jewish inmates.

Two of the Jewish plaintiffs ate only fruit and matzah in April because they were not provided with kosher-for-Passover meals.

Some 35 states and the federal government now provide kosher food for observant Jewish prisoners.
