Serbia withdrew its diplomats from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) this week, the Euro News website reports today (August 24, 2017).
The withdrawal is believed to be due to FYROM's efforts to help Kosovo become a member of UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo -- which seceded as a province of Serbia and declared itself an independent nation in 2008 -- and opposes all attempts of Kosovo to join international organizations as a sovereign country.
Serbia is primarily a Greek Orthodox Christian nation, while Islam is the main religion of Kosovo.
