Erdogan: Era of Bowing to West Demands Over; Turkey's Decades-Long Effort to Join EU Still Nil

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that the era of a submissive Turkey bowing to every Western demand is over, the Al Jazeera website reports today (July 26, 2017).

Erdogan's comments came as top European Union (EU) officials held talks with Turkey's foreign minister in Brussels, Belgium. Turkey has eliminated freedom of the press and has denied human rights and jailed many foreigners without a trial in the predominantly Muslim country.

"The West wants Turkey to do, without question, whatever they want... I am sorry to say that Turkey no longer exists," said the Turkish dictator.

Turkey's decades-long bid for EU membership remains in the deep freeze and shows no signs of thawing.
