The countries of Chad and Niger in Africa have launched a joint military operation against the Boko Haram terrorist group based in Nigeria, the Euro News website reports today (March 9, 2015).
Boko Haram has expanded its operation with cross border raids, spurring Nigeria's neighbors to retaliate.
Almost six years into its insurgency in Nigeria, Boko Haram is now attacking villages in the countries bordering Lake Chad -- Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.
Last week, Boko Haram pledged its allegiance to ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), which rules a self-declared caliphate that is expected to merge with the land in Nigeria that Boko Haram controls.
