Syria's Civil War Is Now Stretching into Lebanon; At Least 13 Lebanese Troops Killed by Syrian Raid

A fire fight broke out between Lebanese troops and Syrian Islamists yesterday near the town of Arsal, which has become home to thousands of Syrian refugees, the Euro News website reports today (August 4, 2014).

A Lebanese army commander said at least 13 of his soldiers had died and more were missing in what was the biggest incursion by Syrian gunmen into Lebanon since Syria's civil war began more than three years ago.

In the Syrian capital, there has been no letup in the government's shelling of the suburbs. Moreover,  Syrian rebels have footage from a field hospital in the city of Hama showing victims of a purported chlorine gas attack by the government.

More than 170,000 people have been killed in Syria's civil war since it began in March 2011, as rebels continue to fight to overthrow President Bashar-al Assad.
