An atheist is scheduled to give a secular invocation for the beginning of a council meeting in a South Dakota city, the Christian Post website reports today (August 5, 2014).
Amanda Novotny -- president of the Siouxland Freethinkers -- will give the invocation tonight (August 5) at the Sioux Falls City Council meeting.
Novotny said that the inspiration for doing the invocation came from the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Town of Greece v. Galloway.
In that case, the Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 that a city council can allow for prayers -- including sectarian prayers -- or invocations at its public meetings.
