Obama Wouldn't Pardon Afghan Sgt. Deserter; Trump:Bowe Bergdahl a "Dirty,Rotten Traitor"

Despite having granted more pardons than any president in U.S. history, Barack Obama refused to pardon Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who is facing a court-martial for desertion after he left his base in Afghanistan and was captured by enemy militants, The Daily Beast website reports today (January 20, 2017).

According to Bergdahl's attorney, Eugene Fidell, the deserted soldier hoped to be among the hundreds of people Obama pardoned this week before ending his presidency, but such was not the case.

The effort to obtain a pardon was revealed today by Fidell in a new motion filed by Bergdahl's legal team.

The team is attempting to dismiss the Army's case on the grounds of President Donald Trump's harsh words toward Bergdahl during the presidential campaign, claiming they deny him a fair trial. At that time, Trump called Bergdahl a "dirty, rotten traitor."
