Ukraine Harmonizes Various Rel. Denominations; Orthodox, UGCC, Catholics, Protestants Coexist

The Religious Information Service of Ukraine website reports today (December 12, 2011) that the National Sociological Survey of the population of Ukraine -- conducted from November 22 to December 6, 2011 -- indicates that the most popular religious denomination in Ukraine is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP).

In answering the question about their religion, 23.1 percent of respondents identified themselves as non-religious; 31.1 percent called themselves faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kiev Patriarchate; and 25.9 percent faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate.

Another 8.5 percent of respondents identified themselves as part of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC); 1.7 percent as faithful to the Roman Catholic Church; 1 percent as Protestants; and 0.2 percent as Muslims.

For the survey, 2,012 adult respondents were questioned. Statistical error is within 2.2 percent.
