Christians Around the World Celebrate Easter; Hundreds of Thousands at Moscow Services

Christian Churches all around the world celebrate Christ's Resurrection, the main Christian feast proving the victory over sin and death.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all of Russia chaired a midnight festival paschal Orthodox Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior tonight (April 4, 2010). Several thousands of believers -- including Russia's President and Prime Minister -- came to celebrate the feast with the Primate, while hundreds of thousands of Muscovites prayed at night services in other churches of the capital.

Orthodox Divine Liturgies were celebrated in 30,000 parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate all around the globe, according to the Interfax-Religion website.

According to sociological polls conducted on Easter eve, the number of those who are celebrating the feast has grown this year. About 90 percent of Russians -- including atheists -- will somehow celebrate Easter.
