Christian Relationship Counselor Loses Appeal; Fired for Refusal to Advise Same-Sex Couples

A Christian relationship counselor in England has lost his bid to bring his dismissal before the Court of Appeal, according to the Christian Today website.

Gary McFarlane was dismissed by Relate Avon in October 2007, after telling his employers that he felt he could not advise same-sex couples because of his Christian beliefs.

He later lost his claim of unfair dismissal and discrimination at an employment tribunal, as well as a subsequent employment appeal tribunal.

Lord Justice Laws today (April 29, 2010) refused to grant McFarlane permission to have his case heard before the Court of Appeal on the grounds that doing so would be "divisive, capricious, and arbitrary."
