The U.S. and Israel are working to block a renewed Palestinian Authority (PA) drive to become a member state of the United Nations, the Jerusalem Post website reports today (December 31, 2018).
"We are prepared to stop the initiative," said Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon.
Approval of the UN move would hand the Palestinians unilateral statehood recognition outside the context of any final status agreement with Israel.
There are 139 countries which -- outside the context of the UN -- recognize Palestine as a state, with 120 of them that maintain full diplomatic relations.
