A clash with "terrorists" in eastern Syria killed four Russian soldiers and wounded several others, the AP website reports today (May 28, 2018).
Russian and Syrian government troops have been fighting rebels and members of the Islamic State (IS) group in the eastern province of Deir el-Zour in recent weeks.
The Russian Defense Ministry said "two Russian military advisers died at the scene." It added that five others were wounded, two of whom died in a Russian military hospital.
The ministry said 43 insurgents were killed in the nighttime battle.
