Gunmen Kill 26 on Two Buses, Truck in Egypt; Open Fire on Christians Heading to Monastery

Gunmen attacked two buses and a truck taking a group of Coptic Orthodox Christians to a monastery in southern Egypt today (May 26, 2017), killing at least 26 people and wounding 25 others, according to the Euro News website.

An Interior Ministry spokesman said the unidentified gunmen had arrived in three four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Masked men stopped the two buses and truck and opened fire on a road leading to the monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor in Minya province, about 140 miles south of Cairo.

Security forces launched a hunt for the attackers, setting up dozens of checkpoints and patrols on the desert road.
