French warplanes struck at Islamic State (IS) targets in Iraq today (September 19, 2014), according to the Euro News website.
The French President said the Rafale jets had attacked what he called "a logistics depot of the terrorists."
"Further actions will take place in the coming days with the same goals of weakening the terrorist organization and helping the Iraqi authorities, which means the Iraqi soldiers and the Peshmerga fighters from Iraqi Kurdistan," French President Francois Hollande said.
It is the first military action against the IS by France since Hollande announced this week that his country would join a US-led coalition in a campaign against the Islamic extremists.
