Swastikas Are Spray-Painted on Philly Synagogue; Rabbi: Renews Awful Past of Holocaust Survivors

A Philadelphia synagogue has been targeted with anti-Semitic vandalism, the JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) website reports today (June 25, 2014).

Members of the Congregations of Ner Zedek discovered two large swastikas spray-painted on the building when they arrived on June 23 for daily morning prayers.

In recent weeks, a rock was thrown through a glass panel on the synagogue door. Also, swastikas were spray-painted on the building -- located in northeast Philadelphia -- a few years ago.

"As we know, unfortunately, in the world we live in, although we all want to try and get along with each other, it doesn't always happen that way," said Rabbi Reuben Israel Abraham, the Conservative synagogue's spiritual leader. "I have a number of Holocaust survivors here in my congregation, and if they see something like this, of course it brings back all sorts of terrible memories of what they went through."
